Budhanilkantha Municipality (Kathmandu District, Bagmati Province) is an urban municipality in the Kathmandu Valley. Established in 2014 by merging several village development committees, it covers about 67.45 km² and lies at the foot of the Shivapuri Hills. With roughly 179,700 people as of 2021, it is the valley’s third-largest city (after Kathmandu and Lalitpur). The municipality is named for the famous Budhanilkantha Temple – a large open-air shrine with a reclining stone statue of Lord Vishnu – which is a major cultural and religious landmark. Budhanilkantha combines suburban neighborhoods, forested hillsides, and sacred sites, making it both a residential area and a pilgrimage destination in the Kathmandu region.
In partnership with Budhanilkantha Municipality, Tech Academy Nepal is working to ensure students gain access to free, quality courses that prepare them for the future. Budhanilkantha’s active role in mobilizing schools and encouraging competitions reflects its strong vision for empowering youth through education and technology. Together, we are shaping a community of learners who will lead with knowledge and innovation.
